Salary Calculator: Convert Hourly, Weekly, Monthly and Annual Pay
Enter your pay in any one period and say how many hours, days and weeks you work. You get the equivalent amount for every other period, before any tax or deductions.
How the conversions work
Every figure is first turned into an annual amount, and then divided back down into the other periods. The annual amount is:
- From hourly pay:
hourly × hours per week × paid weeks - From daily pay:
daily × days per week × paid weeks - From weekly pay:
weekly × paid weeks - From fortnightly pay:
fortnightly × paid weeks ÷ 2 - From monthly pay:
monthly × 12
The reverse steps use weekly pay as the hub: weekly = annual ÷ paid weeks, hourly = weekly ÷ hours, daily = weekly ÷ days, fortnightly = weekly × 2 and monthly = annual ÷ 12. For the worked example, 25 × 40 × 52 gives 52,000 a year, which is 4,333.33 a month and 1,000 a week.
Choosing the right hours and weeks
The default of 40 hours and 52 weeks gives 2,080 working hours a year, a convention many payroll teams and online converters use. It treats paid holidays and public holidays as working time, which matches a salaried job where those days are paid.
If you are paid only for hours actually worked, lower the paid weeks. Someone with four unpaid weeks should enter 48. Part-time workers should enter their real weekly hours, and shift workers can use an average. Changing these values moves the hourly equivalent a lot: the same annual salary of 52,000 is 25 an hour at 2,080 hours but 27.08 an hour over 1,920 hours.
Gross pay versus take-home pay
All results are gross, meaning before income tax, social insurance, pension contributions and other deductions. Take-home pay can be quite different and depends on your country, your circumstances and any benefits. To estimate tax from a gross annual figure with brackets that you supply, use the income tax calculator.
Monthly figures are a straight twelfth of the annual amount. If your employer pays every four weeks or twice a month, the payslip amount will differ from a calendar-month figure, even though the annual total is the same.
Using the result to compare offers
Convert both offers to the same period and the same working hours before comparing. A job quoted at 30 an hour with 35 hours a week is 54,600 a year over 52 weeks, while a salary of 55,000 for 40 hours has a lower hourly equivalent of 26.44. Remember benefits that do not appear in pay, such as paid leave, employer pension contributions, travel costs and overtime rules, since they can outweigh a small difference in base pay.
Figures are estimates for planning and do not replace your contract or payslip.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert an hourly wage to an annual salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work each week and by the number of paid weeks in the year. For 25 per hour, 40 hours and 52 weeks, that is 52,000.
How many working hours are in a year?
With 40 hours a week and 52 paid weeks the total is 2,080. Your own figure depends on your weekly hours and on how many weeks you are actually paid.
How do I convert an annual salary to an hourly rate?
Divide the annual salary by the number of paid weeks to get weekly pay, then divide by the hours worked each week.
Is the result before or after tax?
Before. The calculator does not subtract tax or other deductions, so it shows gross pay only.
Why is monthly pay not four times weekly pay?
A year has about 4.33 weeks per month, not exactly four. The calculator divides the annual amount by 12 to avoid that error.
