Business Days Calculator
Count the working days between two dates, or find the date that falls a set number of working days away. Choose which days are the weekend and list any holidays to skip.
How working days are counted
The calculator steps through the calendar one day at a time. A day counts as a working day only if it is not one of your chosen weekend days and does not appear in your holiday list. In counting mode, the start date and end date are both counted by default, which matches the common spreadsheet convention. Switch the start date off to count only the days after it.
In adding mode, the start date is never counted. Adding 1 working day to a Friday with a Saturday and Sunday weekend gives the following Monday. Entering a negative number walks backwards the same way.
Choosing the right weekend
Weekends are not the same everywhere. Many countries use Saturday and Sunday, some use Friday and Saturday, and some businesses work six days a week with only Sunday off. The weekend selector covers those patterns, and "no weekend" is useful for services that run every day, where only holidays are excluded. Shift patterns that rotate, such as four days on and three off, are not covered.
Entering holidays
Public holidays differ by country, region and year, and some move from year to year, so this calculator does not guess them. Paste the dates for your own location, one per line, in YYYY-MM-DD form, for example 2026-12-25. Commas and semicolons also work as separators. Dates that fall on a weekend are ignored so they are not subtracted twice, and repeated dates only count once. Check the official calendar published by your government or employer, as observed days can shift when a holiday falls on a weekend.
Common uses and limits
- Delivery and shipping: estimate an arrival date, remembering that carriers differ on whether Saturday counts.
- Contracts and notice periods: some agreements count business days, but the exact definition is in the document, so confirm it.
- Project planning: estimate how many working days a task window contains.
This tool does not know about half days, regional holidays or company closures unless you list them. Half days count as full working days here, so subtract them by hand if your agreement treats them differently, and always confirm the cut-off hour that applies to a deadline. For a plain calendar-day count, use the days between dates calculator.
Worked example
A project runs from Monday 2 November to Friday 13 November 2026 with one public holiday on 4 November. How many working days is that?

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate business days between two dates?
Count each day from the start to the end, skipping the weekend days and any listed holidays. The calculator does this for you and shows how many days of each kind were skipped.
Does the count include the start and end dates?
By default both are counted, like the NETWORKDAYS function in spreadsheets. You can turn off counting of the start date if you only want days after it.
How do I add 10 business days to a date?
Choose the add mode, enter the start date and 10 in the working days field. The result skips weekends and any holidays you list.
Can I use a Friday and Saturday weekend?
Yes. The weekend selector has Saturday and Sunday, Friday and Saturday, Sunday only, and no weekend options.
Why does the calculator not include public holidays automatically?
Holidays vary by country and region and some change each year, so you supply the dates that apply to you. That keeps the result accurate for your own calendar.
